DSA for Bernie! Campaign Update

New Orleans DSA members & supporters at the chapter’s favorite bar, Pirogues, for a debate watch party.

We know that Bernie Sanders is the best presidential candidate for workers and our families, so New Orleans DSA is running an ambitious campaign for Bernie 2020! We will be knocking thousands of doors, making hundreds of calls and texts, registering voters, hosting monthly Bernie educational and social events, and canvassing & tabling across the city. There’s plenty of work to do and we’re going to need all hands on deck, so come join us! Our next Bernie campaign meeting is Saturday, Dec. 7th, 2 – 3:30 PM in the common space at Fairgrinds Coffee House (3133 Ponce de Leon).

At our October General Meeting, New Orleans DSA voted overwhelmingly to take up a Workers for Bernie campaign. As part of our campaign proposal, we pledged to knock 10,000 doors by the Louisiana primary in April, register 200 voters, recruit 50 new active members, and allocate up to $4,000 in funds so that we can print Bernie campaign materials for DSA chapters across Louisiana and Mississippi who want to run their own Bernie campaigns.

In early November, we held our Bernie Campaign Kickoff Dinner, attended by around 40 people, almost all of them new to DSA and our work! On November 17th, we held two simultaneous Bernie canvasses across town, one in Metairie and one in Gentilly, and had 30 total volunteers come out to knock doors with us. Just last night we hosted our second debate watch party where we packed the bar with DSA members and supporters.
